Arabic Learning Plan

Assalamu Alaykum,

Well today I spent the class time trying to evaluate the students and try to see what levels they were at. I found that most, except for one or two were still at the beginning stages, ie. the arabic alphabet. So inshallah that’s where I’ll start on with them. Here’s an outline of the process that we’ll go through. I got this from a website of a homeschooling sister’s blog.

First: Learn the Alphabet - stand alone forms:

  • Visually identify all 29 letters in any random order
  • Write all 29 letters in their standalone forms
  • Recite the alphabet in order with correct pronounciation
  • Tell what letter comes before or after a letter
  • Tell what letter comes between two letters
  • Be able to write any dictated letter

Second: Learn the alphabet - connected forms:

  • Visually identify all forms (beginning, middle, and end) of each letter
  • Write all forms (beginning, middle, and end) of each letter

Third: Reading:

  • Knows the names of the short vowels (Fatha, kasra, and dammah) and recognize them in words/letters
  • Can read words with the short vowels on them
  • Knows what sukoon means, can recognize sukoon in words, can read words with sukoon on them
  • Knows the three long vowels in arabic (fatha followed by alif, kasrah followed by ya, damma followed by waw) can identify them and read words with the long vowels
  • Knows the three types of tanween and read words with them
  • Knows the symbol for shadda and read words with them
  • Knows the meaning of the article ‘al’
  • Knows which letters are sun letters and which are moon letters
  • can read sentences in arabic

Inshallah when we build their reading and writing, we’ll move on to vocabulary and grammar inshallah.

  • Resources. They could be an online article, an audio piece, a website, and so on. Basically just extra things for you and your child.
  • Class happenings. Kids are sweet and say or do things that catch your attention. Every once in a while I’ll post something that happened in class that caught my attention.
  • Projects. Students will be given projects every once in a while to enhance their understanding of a certain subject.

Inshallah the website will be loaded with resources and fun stuff soon. So make sure you bookmark and visit at least once a week.

First Day!

Assalamu Alaykum!

Inshallah Alif Academy will be starting January 8th!

Now you might be wondering, what should I do to get prepared? Or what will my kids need?

Here’s a list of things your child should have:

  1. Pencils
  2. Binder
  3. Folder
  4. Dividers for the binder (3 or 4 should be enough)
  5. Quran
  6. Backpack (optional, but helpful)

Why would a little kid need a binder? Every student will have a personal ‘Knowledge Book’ A.K.A binder to store all their important things for easy access. This includes:

  1. Personal Quran Memorization Chart
  2. Personal Progress chart
  3. Homework sheet
  4. Classwork
  5. Homework
  6. And more

Every student should also have one or two folders. They will use the folders to keep their papers neat and free of any wrinkles. (Did you ever see what happens to papers that are just ‘stuffed’ into a backpack? ugh!)

So, what are we going to do on the first day?

  • Construct a personal Quran memorization chart for every student.
  • Learn the rules - what to do, and what not to do
  • Organize and customize every student’s binder
  • Have students know what subjects and topics they will be studying for the month.

You might thing, oh it’s the first day of a new school, and I want to know what kind of environment my child will be in. Well here’s something to ease your mind: parents can come in and hang around for a few minutes to get an idea of where your child will be learning. :)

Inshallah we will see you on the 8th of January! Make sure to keep an eye on this website for updates and resources!
